That is NOT a 1977 ‘Bird decal on the spoiler . Its a ‘79... 10th Anniversary bird? Decal? ???

Kinja'd!!!

Currently trying to find more info on it. Besides the sail panel bird emblem:

Kinja'd!!!

It was the only Screaming Chicken on the outside of the car.

Which if it HAD one on the hood it would be this one:

Kinja'd!!!

That doesn’t match what’s on the spoiler, and I can’t find any replacements that size , or images of 1977-78 Firebirds with that style bird on the spoiler. Hmm...

They did switch to that style in very late 1978 but only for gold and blue cars:

But I doubt they would have put one in that location.

I just want to find a similar decal on a similar car to know I’m not crazy.

And is the bent left side exhaust pipe part of the package?

They were angled to follow the quarter panels. I accentuated it by adding the chrome tips.

The angle of the photo doesn’t help.

Yeah but that’s a 79+

I wanna see a 77-78 Esprit with the spoiler and 79+ bird.

Like this but... older

Kinja'd!!!

‘79+ had a taller spoiler, too.

So here is a possibility, could it be painted? or hand drawn  on the car? I have seen some convincing custom artwork

I distinctly remember it being a sticker.

What I am saying is, they put a bird decal in that spot, but what you are looking for is a picture of a very late 78 firebird in gold or blue. it is likely the same decal as the 79 version, they started applying them early for the SE cars and it trickled down to the regular cars.

Yes, for hoods. Only Formulas that I have found have the smaller bird on the spoiler, or that Esprit package. I can’t find another ‘77 or ‘78 car with a smaller version of the bird from a ‘78 SE or the ‘79+ Esprit/ Formula cars.

So its possible my car had a ‘79 Esprit/Formula spoiler bird on it, even though the spoiler was smaller and the bird not correct for the year.

I also found that the side stripe is not a GM stripe, its aftermarket. So my aunt that bought this car used in the early 80's either bought it as is, or her/the original owner installed a spoiler AND that bird at a later date.

Or the spoiler was added by GM/dealer and the bird at a later date. Because from what I can find, that bird should not have been available in 1977.

So did Esprits with the spoiler in 1977/78 come blank? I can’t find any evidence of that, either.

Phoenix  sells a tail bird for 73-78 but its the old style bird. It should have had that bird ther I think

Could be a factory graphics delete car. They did that a lot.

I wonder if PHS has a two-for-one sale. I can get the build sheet for my old car AND my current TA, which I also do not know if it came with bird decals or not....
